The Arava International Center for Agriculture Training (AICAT) was established in Sapir Israel,in 1994 with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture. In early 2016, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed an agreement dubbed “The Jerusalem Declaration” or the “Declaration on Collaboration in Water and Irrigation” that would see fresh graduates from institutions of higher learning attend an 11-month practical training course in Israel.

The AICAT center trains over 1,000 students annually from Academic Institutes under 3 different programs: Diploma program, MSc program in Plant Science in cooperation with Tel-Aviv Univeristy and short term courses in Advanced Agricultural Studies.

The Center’s diploma program is based on the principle of Learning by Doing. The winning combination of practical training on an advanced and modern farm, theoretical studies, professional guided tours of the area and community life provides the students a unique and rich experience in Agriculture.

The Careers Service Office carried out interviews for this annual internship program on 11th and 12 March 2020 at the UON towers 4th floor. The applications for the same had attracted a large number of applicants both those undertaking Agricultural and Veterinary studies and all of them were invited for the interview. There was a 99% turn out for the interviews with 75 of the 78 attending.

Compilation of the results is ongoing with those who shall be successful are set to be invited for a second interview. Successful candidates from the second interview that will be carried out by a team from AICAT will be admitted to the program. This will be the fourth cohort of students being sent to Israel for this agricultural diploma program based on ‘learning by doing’.
