Dear Student,

IBM with the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) and the University of Edinburgh School of Informatics have come together to organise a virtual hackathon to allow UoN students to meet other students whilst allowing them to produce a solution with a real purpose.

Students interested in climate related studies, are invited to participate in a “Call for Code University Spot Challenge for Europe, Middle East and Africa: Students vs Climate Change.”

Solutions should address one of the following 3 areas:

  • · Water sustainability
    · Energy sustainability
    · Disaster recovery

This is open to all disciplines, students with or without technical backgrounds are welcome to join.  In previous spot challenges, IBM has found some of the most innovative ideas have come from teams of 3-5 students who have come from across faculties, students are encouraged to work in teams across faculties.

Registration closes at midnight on the 5th November.

There are 3 prizes of $1500, $1000 and $500 which will be paid via paypal to the winning team.

The Call for Code Global Challenge was created by David Clark Cause and supported by Founding Partner IBM and Charitable Partner United Nations Human Rights.  It invites developers and problem solvers around the world to build solutions that fight back against the most pressing issues of our time.  The grand event runs from February to the end of July but outside of this window, Spot Challenges will be running.

IBM will be providing the virtual hackathon platform, mentors and workshops.  Whilst the Clinton Global Initiative University will have guest speakers to kick off the event.

The University of Edinburgh School of Informatics are maintaining the registrations and would be delighted to have UoN students on board.
